Postpartum Doula Services

By definition, a Postpartum Doula is a nonmedical person who assists a person, spouse, and/or family, after childbirth by providing physical assistance and emotional support.  The value of a Postpartum Doula in our society is growing more important every day.  Our culture leaves many women with no familial support or child rearing education.  It has become less common for children to be exposed to childbirth or encouraged in the care of their siblings.  Therefore, when they enter motherhood, or fatherhood, it is a foreign experience.  Also, extended families often live far apart from each other or disagree on the style of parenting. Many families are just too busy.  This leaves new mothers and fathers without the strong foundation they need for raising their family.

I have loved being around babies since I could walk and talk.  It is such a blessing to be able to help families as they welcome their baby into their lives. As a Postpartum Doula, I have learned to be very flexible as my role within each family is unique to their needs.  This special time in their life is very fragile and I believe sets the foundation for how they view themselves as parents now and in the years to come.

My quiet presence in your home will create a comfortable atmosphere allowing you to focus on the attachment between you and your baby.  Through extra emotional and physical support, unneeded stressors are removed.  This will leave you feeling more adequate as a mother. My non-judgmental support to your family, and validation of your parenting styles and skills, will strengthen your family’s relationships.  As time progresses you will grow in your knowledge and abilities, making you more confident and independent.

Lactation Consultant

Lactation Consultants are professional breastfeeding specialists trained to teach mothers how to feed their baby.

My love for breastfeeding started 20 years ago with the birth of my first child.  It continued to grow with the addition of my next two children. After overcoming difficulties breastfeeding them, I was able to enjoy a long healthy breastfeeding experience. But not without the help of a Lactation Consultant. This was the beginning of my passion to reach and help other mothers struggling with feeding their babies.

I started my training as a volunteer with WIC and at a local hospital 14 years ago.  Over the years that followed I continued to work with mothers and furthered my education and training in breastfeeding.  Now I am an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

If you are pregnant and interested in breastfeeding, we can meet and discuss techniques, positioning, breast pumps, possible problems to avoid, and any other concerns you may have.

If you are breastfeeding now and are experiencing latching difficulties, soreness and pain, low milk supply, or any other nursing related issues, we can meet to resolve them
